DATASERVE

ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING

APRIL 1990

Computerisation of Accounts

Dataserve has recently embarked on computerising their accounts. We are using a program called BookWorker, manufactured by the Australian company Sybiz. It consists of four modules:

The database is administrated fornightly (sic) by the Head Office. For the staff of Dataserve, it means one thing. Any sales or purchases you make for Dataserve must be recorded in our account, so we can administrate commision rates, etc. To do this, fill you a Transaction Entry Sheet. I will supply you with a few of these.

Forum

Everyone should have seen the March/April Forum. It is part of our agenda to discuss this, the various suggestions made in it, and to assign the produces of our May/June edition.

Members

We have not had a lot of response to the members scheme. The forms have been produced, and we have set up a preliminary computer database which has a record of all our staff and members. All that is listed is their name, address, phone number and computer type. If you know someone who might like to become a member, please let me know.

New Products

At the end of May, we are releasing one of our most advanced products yet. Called SetTalk, it is a program designed for mathematicians, and is therefore going to be entered in the Maths Talent Quest. I have witten the first 400 lines so far.

Pricelists

We have a computer designed pricelist which illustrates all of our prices and products. So far we have 29 products, which will be 30 when we release SetTalk.

Macintosh Division

Chief Administrator of our Macintosh divisino will tell us about how the Mac division is going, as illustrated on our agenda.

IBM Division

Not much can really be said about this, though I must say something about our $12.95 Master Packages, which will include a as-yet undefined number of our IBM packages.

C64 Division

Tony has a friend who is interested in participating with a software licensing agreement to produce Commodore 64 packages.

Electronics Division

Manuals

We are currently investigating producing manuals for all our products. Does anyone know somebody with access to a laser printer? This, is possible, could help spruce up our printouts, although it is not absolutely essential.

How to survive a merger

"Mergers can strike fear into the hearts of executives.
"But with a sound stragegy (sic), executives and benefit from the change and build ofr themselves a secure place in the new organisations, according to the managing director of SACS Consulting Groups, Mr Tony Beddison.
"'Those involved in this form of restructing generally believe it limits their promotional opportunities.', he said.
"'Others are even more fatalistic, fearing that their name is etched on a bullet about to be fired.'
"United States statistics back up those fears.
"A survey of 150 large mergers showed almost half the senior executive had left within one year and up to 75 per cent had left within three years.
"Mr Beddison said that these statistics did not tell the real story, 'because, more often than not, employees actually sabotage their jobs during a merger by responding to the situation in an emotional and stubborn manner'.
"'A merger is an opportunity for you to make a lasting impression on the new company -- provided you take the initiative,' he said."
